About Chef Georgios
George Gkouveris, born and raised in Sparta, Greece, developed a passion for food early on while working in his family’s restaurant.
​
After moving to the United States, he earned a certificate in Culinary Arts and, in 2004, opened Sparta Taverna in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, where he continues to serve as Executive Chef and Owner.
​
In 2022, he published his first cookbook, Simply Greek: From My Restaurant To Your Home, sharing traditional and modern Greek recipes inspired by Sparta Taverna restaurants.
